OPAF Internship Program

OPAF offers an internship program for creative and team-minded young people -- undergraduates, recent graduates, graduate students, and exceptional high school seniors -- who wish to learn about the nonprofit sector, nonprofit programs for people with physical disabilities, and public service in the name of the fields of orthotics and prosthetics (O&P).

Individuals chosen to participate in this program should meet specific requirements outlined in the announcements below. In addition, the students should ideally be able to commit at least 100 hours total to OPAF during the course of an academic semester (spring, summer, or fall), so that OPAF can offer an endorsement for a President's Student Service Award, a White House initiative which recognizes young Americans with awards for outstanding community service, while encouraging more young people to serve. This program seeks to identify and actively engage our next generation of "Service Leaders."

"...Forever my experience at OPAF will have an impression on my mind and heart....OPAF came into my life at a very critical moment, and continued to do so in ways I could not imagine..."

Laura Kaurin
graduate of Calvin College and OPAF intern spring 2003

"...In addition to my hands-on experiences in the nonprofit industry, I have learned a great deal about the O&P community…This internship has been a true collaborative working and educational experience…I would love to continue working for you in the future."

rising senior at New York University and OPAF intern summer 2003
